Marine Science Congress 2022

The Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC) and the Chilean Society of Marine Sciences (SCHCM) invite you to participate in the XLI Marine Science Congress 2022.

The congress will be held in person at the San Andrés Campus of the UCSC, in the city of Concepción, Chile, between May 23 and 27, 2022.

The virtual talk by Dr. David KA Barnes will be held at the San Agustín Auditorium ( Faculty of Engineering ) on Thursday at 12:15 p.m.

Award Honor in Scientia Marina

The Board of Directors of the Chilean Society of Marine Sciences is pleased to announce that our partner, Prof. Dr. Eleuterio Yáñez , has been awarded the “Honor in Scientia Marina” 2022 award.

After completing his studies in Fisheries Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Dr. Yáñez obtained his “Doctorat de Troisieme Cycle en Oceanographie Biologique” (1980) and “Doctorat en Oceanologie Biologique” (1989) degrees in France, basing his research on the oceanographic study of species such as Atlantic tuna, anchoveta, sardine, jack mackerel and swordfish, combining production models with the effect of environmental variables.

Confirmed speakers

The following are the invited speakers:

Dr. Osvaldo Ulloa, an academic from the Department of Oceanography at the University of Concepción and Director of the Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO), on January 20 he became the first Chilean to descend into an oceanic trench and reach the depths of the Atacama Trench, at more than 8000 m deep.

The feat was carried out together with the American explorer Víctor Vescovo, who piloted the “DSV Limiting Factor” submersible within the framework of the Atacama Hadal Expedition.

Professor Ulloa will share his experience in the XLI CCM2022.
